I wish to pay my respects to the traditional landowners throughout Australia, past and present, and the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation, where I live and work.

Artist Alina Kar

About Alina

Alina is a multi-disciplinary West Australian artist creating sculpture, ceramics, painting, drawing and print. She grew up in the Himalayan foothills before migrating to Western Australia in 1993 and conceptually much of her art communicates the complex nuances of home, belonging, displacement, and otherness which were born of this shift. Aesthetically she has paid homage to the confluence of these two cultures by utilizing mediums native to both her respective homes. These include found objects, textiles, and natural elements like West Australian sandalwood and tea from her hometown of Darjeeling. These materials not only evoke nostalgia and familiarity but also serve as a powerful tool for storytelling. The result is a distinct rich visual language.

Other works by Alina depart from these themes and are simply intended to convey an emotional vulnerability that she can only express through art. Alina has exhibited in galleries in Australia and continues to create and expand upon her formidable portfolio. She seeks to foster a space for meaningful dialogue and collective introspection through her body of work.
